Breathing is vital to our existence. When we breathe in or inhale we take in oxygen. The lungs pass oxygen into the blood. This oxygen charged blood is then carried by the red blood cells to all the cells and tissues of the body. When blood returns to the lungs after feeding the cells and tissues, and collecting waste matter, it is once again charged with oxygen from the lungs. Breathing, therefore, has two important roles. It takes in oxygen for the body and gets rid of waste material like carbon dioxide. Breathing also helps to control the body temperature.
